USF Professor Scott Perry presented another memorable Italian film classic at a January 31 "Film Matinee" held at the main room of the Community Foundation of Sarasota county
Following last year's successful screening of 'Ossessione" this time Dr. Perry chose "A Special Day (Una giornata particolare)," a 1977 production starring Sofia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni playing characters that are far apart from their usual glamorous roles. In a nutshell, the film covers the daytime hours of two neighbors in a middle-class apartment building during the 1938 day when Benito Mussolini received Adolf Hitler in Rome. The picture received, among others, a Golden Globe and two Hollywood Academy Award nominations.
It was, most attendees agreed, a moving yet rewarding experience that gently yet without compromise explored topics that remain current.
A lively Q-and-A followed the screening with Dr. Perry ending the session promising to return with another Italian classic later this year.
